2026 POCUS Course for General and Emergency Adult Care
Following the success of five years of Point of Care ultrasound (POCUS) training in Ghana, we are now inviting applications for our 2026 course.

Our POCUS CPD courses are delivered in partnership between Worldwide Radiology expert volunteers and academic Ultrasound experts at the University of Salford, UK.
Participants will enroll as associate students at the University for the duration (April 2026 - March 2027). Courses are delivered throughout a whole year, combining online learning and supervision with hands-on practice blocks.

This is not a short POCUS course. We aim for our participants to develop high-quality, safe and durable POCUS skills. We offer all participants individual mentoring, so they are supported throughout the year as they embed their learning while working in-service; building confidence and safe POCUS practice for the long-term.

Several of our alumni have progressed through our train the trainer program and provide training and mentorship. They know exactly what participants need to learn to become effective POCUS practitioners in Ghana!

Course outline
This course is delivered in collaboration with the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) and the Teaching Hospital in Ho, where the hands-on training will be hosted.

The curriculum is aimed at those new to POCUS or with minimal experience. We will cover a range of knowledge and skills including principles of good POCUS practice, physics and equipment, E-FAST (POCUS in trauma), FASH (POCUS in HIV/TB), effusions, pneumonia, pulmonary edema, assessment of fluid status, hydronephrosis, gallstones,cholecystis/liver abscess, DVT, essential first and third trimester obstetrics, and US guided vascular access.

Participants will be able to indicate after completion of Part 1 which modules they would prefer to focus on in Part 2, aligning with their practice needs.
Trainers and certification
Teaching is delivered by expert sonographers, radiologists and physicians, both local and external to Ghana with a maximum hands-on teaching ratio of 1 instructor to 3 participants.

Following successful completion of online learning modules, clinical OSCE assessments, a 10-minute case presentation, and regular online supervision sessions, a CPD certificate of completion will be issued by WWR and the University of Salford.

Please note, we do not provide certificates if all assessments are not completed successfully, but do offer structured support for participants to resit clinical assessments. The course is quality assured by the University of Salford Ultrasound team, in line with UK guidance on Ultrasound short course accreditation. However, this is not a credit-bearing course.
